What does a business coach
actually do?
A straightforward guide to business coaching; what it is, what it isn’t, and whether it’s right for you.
What is business coaching?
Who is it for?
Business coaching is a structured, ongoing working relationship between a coach and a business owner or leader, focused on improving performance, decision-making, and direction.
Unlike consulting, a business coach doesn’t tell you what to do. Unlike therapy, the focus is on present performance and future direction. Business coaching creates the thinking space, honest challenge, and structured accountability that most business owners never get anywhere else.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Business owners, founders, and senior leaders who are capable and experienced but who are making decisions in isolation, carrying weight without a sounding board, or sensing that something in how they’re working isn’t sustainable.
If you’d benefit from someone who has built and sold a real business, not just advised from the outside this is what Steve does.
Real experience.
Not theory from the outside.
With Steve, business coaching is practical, direct, and structured around you specifically. Sessions focus on real decisions, real pressure points, and real next steps not generic frameworks. Steve’s background building a £20m business means the work stays grounded in commercial reality. You won’t get motivational language or abstract theory.
“I don’t trade in motivation or easy answers. I work with people who are already capable, already successful and ready to stop pretending the quiet discomfort they feel isn’t worth paying attention to.”

Frequently asked questions.
How much does business coaching cost in the UK?
Business coaching in the UK ranges from £150–£500/hour for independent coaches, to £1,000+/month for ongoing retained programmes. Steve’s Everest programme (1-2-1 coaching) is £1,000/month. Pinnacle (group coaching with Steve twice monthly) is £500/month.
What’s the difference between a business coach and a mentor?
A mentor shares their own experience and tells you what they’d do. A coach asks the right questions to help you find your own answers. Steve does both — drawing on real business experience while using a structured coaching framework.
How is coaching different from consulting?
A consultant analyses your situation and recommends solutions. A coach works alongside you to develop your own thinking, decisions, and capability. Coaching builds the person; consulting solves the problem.
How do I know if business coaching is right for me?
If you’re making significant decisions alone, carrying a sense that something in how you’re working isn’t sustainable, or finding that external success isn’t matching internal fulfilment, coaching is likely to help. The Life Audit is the best starting point.
